Vince Cable draws first blood in battle of the chancellors

That's the headline in one of today's newspapers following the Channel 4  live televised debate last night between Vince Cable, George Osborne and Alistair Darling.  A quick check of the media clearly shows Vince was the winner, getting regular audience applause.

Vince Cable, who has been widely praised for predicting the recession said in his closing remarks:"" The Labour government led us into this mess...the Tories presided over two big recessions in office, they wasted most of the North Sea oil revenue, they sold off the family silver on the cheap."

To applause, he added: " Now they want to have another turn to get their noses in the trough and reward their rich backers.  The Liberal Democrats are different. We got this crisis basically right. We are not behoden to either the super rich or militant unions."

One of the comments made by a reader in the on-line version of the Daily Mail says that Vince Cable has no experience of business.   He was only the Chief Economist of the oil giant BP before becoming an MP !
