Sefton Council is asking for your views on whether to switch
off street lights in some areas between midnight and 6am. This would save money
and reduce carbon emissions, but there are fears it would put safety at risk.
What do you think?
Street light questionnaire is here
The consultation is also asking about the condition and
maintenance of the current street lights.
Sefton currently has 31,500 street lights, 1,100 illuminated
bollards and 1,963 illuminated traffic signs. These account for 30% of the
Council's electricity bill and 23% of baseline carbon emissions. The Council
says that in terms of saving costs and reducing carbon emissions taking action
on street lighting is a priority.
The consultation closes on 28th September 2012.
