Police and Home Watch – Crime Alert

A message from Inspector Jim Atherton

Burglary

On Tuesday 10th March 2015 a daytime burglary occurred in Liverpool Road, Ainsdale. During which a Ford Focus was taken from the driveway and a large amount of Jewellery was taken, which is of great sentimental value to its owners. The matter is under investigation by DC Reppion from Sefton CID. The owners had photographed the Jewellery which is the advice given by Insurance companies. This has been very helpful in circulating to patrols and to assist with checks at Jewellers and Pawnbrokers alike.  We will do our utmost to recover the items and bring the offenders to justice. We are utilising the Press office for a wider appeal and have used the new neighbourhood Twitter account for the first time. Please follow us on @MerpolFormby .

Have you photographed your jewellery? Have you a registered your valuables for free on immobilise.com? Simply follow the links from the Police website. You will need the make model and serial number for each item. You can print off your own property inventory hopefully it won’t be needed. You can even register a bicycle by adding make, model and Frame number. Look out for details of special crime prevention and property registration sessions in April. We have limited amounts of immobitags for bikes to give away and a number of unique numbered stickers that can also be added to larger items to aide identification by registering the numbers as above.

Shed/ Garage Burglary

Garages in Burnley Road and Sandringham Road were entered overnight 11th March 2015. Fortunately nothing was taken. If you see people acting suspiciously in the area please call 999 emergency or 101 in an non-emergency. Can you ensure that garages and sheds are locked and alarms set where fitted and Cars on driveways locked. Remember don’t leave your car keys near door or windows.

Most thieves are opportunists and by doing the basics you become less likely of being a victim of crime.

If you have any information about these or any other crimes call 101 or anonymously to crimestoppers  on 0800 555 111.

Thanks for your support.

Inspector Jim Atherton.
