Tidying Up The Stray Woodland

The council has started work on this woodland walkway which links Balmoral Drive, Lexton Drive and Rathmore Crescent with Preston New Road.  Overhanging trees are being pruned, entrances cleared, and various areas tidied up generally.  The project should take about a week.

The Stray was originally donated to the community by the well-known Hesketh local land-owning Meols Hall family for the “quiet enjoyment” of Southport people.

More than 30 years ago members of the present Meols ward Lib-Dem local councillor team joined other environmentally-aware residents in carrying out a mass planting of tiny tree saplings throughout the Stray which have now grown full size to create a woodland haven for birds and other wildlife.
