3 reasons to vote Lib Dem in Churchtown, Crossens and Marshside on Thursday May 7th

1 – Green Belt

Nigel Ashton with John Pugh and John Dodd
Cllr Nigel Ashton has led the Lib Dem campaign to save our local Green Belt for the last three years. Labour’s Local Plan threatens to cover many acres of green belt with concrete and tarmac. What have the Conservatives done? Nothing.

2 – Churchtown Library

Nigel Ashton led the campaign to save Churchtown Library

Cllr Nigel Ashton led the campaign to save Churchtown Library and was the founding Chair of the North Meols Library Association, working to open a community-run library in Botanic Gardens. The Bootle-dominated Labour Party closed down three local libraries in Southport. They kept three libraries open in the Bootle constituency.

3 – Botanic Gardens

When the Bootle Labour Party pushed through the latest round of cuts at the Botanic, John Pugh and the local Lib Dems collected a massive 5000 signature petition against this. Councillor Nigel Ashton spoke out against the Botanic cuts in the Council chamber. The Conservatives did nothing.

Vote Lib Dem on May 7th to re-elect John Pugh as MP for Southport and Nigel Ashton as Councillor for Meols Ward

Our local Liberal Democrat team has a long record of action. They are a team that works together, a team that listens to residents, and a team that keeps in touch.

Many local residents say that they appreciate getting the Lib Dem FOCUS newsletters, which are delivered regularly throughout the area. In fact, the Meols Focus has been going for 30 years, proving that Liberal Democrats don’t just appear at election time.

Jo Barton is a key member of the Meols Lib Dem team, working alongside councillors John Dodd and Nigel Ashton. To keep the strongest Lib Dem team working for residents of Southport's Meols Ward - vote for Jo Barton on Thursday May 22nd

Voting information: The polls are open from 7 am to 10 pm on Thursday 22nd May. You do not need your polling card to vote. You can find out where your polling station is by ringing Sefton Council on 0845 140 1049.

What have the Lib Dems ever done for us?

Over the last three years Liberal Democrats in Government have:
  • given a £700 tax cut to more than 20 million working people and lifted nearly three million of the poorest workers out of paying income tax altogether
  • helped businesses create more than a million jobs
  • created a record 1.2 million apprenticeships
  • given extra money for the children who need it the most through the £2.5billion pupil premium
  • given generous rises in the state pension through our 'triple lock' now worth an extra £650 since Labour
  • given the poorest two-year-olds and all three-and-four year-olds 15 hours of free childcare per week
  • introducing equal marriage for all couples
  • announced that all Reception, Year One and Year Two pupils in England will receive free school meals

Lib Dems doing well in towns like Southport

There weren't any elections in Southport this year, but the results from elsewhere in the country are interesting. The key message from the 2013 results is that in constituencies with Lib Dem MPs, like Southport, Liberal Democrat support is holding up well.
